Harvey, the conceited and pampered son of a neglectful father, falls off a transatlantic steamship into the sea and is saved by a fishing boat in the Grand Banks. Despite his attempts to convince them to take him back to land and prove his affluent background, Harvey is unsuccessful. Instead, the captain offers him a humble position on board for a meager wage until they reach the port. This experience transforms Harvey into a mature and thoughtful individual.
