Violet is raped and has twins. She hides her children from everyone for years. Despite being paralyzed on one side of her body due to illness, she still does not show her children to anyone. When one of the twins dies at the age of ten, Violet hides Nell (Jodie Foster) in the forest. However, when Violet also dies, they find Nell. Doctors want to put her in a mental hospital because Nell is unaware of the world and speaks in a unique language that no one understands. They ask the court for three months.
