In 1941 America, Kay and her husband enjoy a happy life until he joins the military following the events at Pearl Harbor. Despite his objections, she secures a position at the nearby aircraft factory where she befriends Hazel, a talented singer from a neighboring area. Their friendship deepens as they, along with other female workers, excel in their roles at the plant. With the ongoing war, Kay eventually begins a romantic relationship with her supervisor, who happens to be a trumpet player, leading to a more complex and challenging phase in her life.
